  44. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

  10. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"
  11. 11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."
  12. 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
  13. 13 The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true."
  14. 14 Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
  15. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
  16. 16 And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.
  17. 17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
  18. 18 I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me."
  19. 19 Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also."
  20. 20 These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.
  21. 21 Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come."
  22. 22 So the Jews said, "Will He kill Himself, because He says, 'Where I go you cannot come'?"
  23. 23 And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
  24. 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
  25. 25 Then they said to Him, "Who are You?" And Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
  26. 26 I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him."
  27. 27 They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.
  28. 28 Then Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
  29. 29 And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him."

  31. 31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

  33. 33 They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, 'You will be made free'?"
  34. 34 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
  35. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
  36. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
  37. 37 "I know that you are Abraham's descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.
  38. 38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father."
  39. 39 They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.
  40. 40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.
  41. 41 You do the deeds of your father." Then they said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father?God."
  42. 42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.

  6. 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
  7. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
  8. 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
  9. 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
  10. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
  11. 11 "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."
  12. 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
  13. 13 The Pharisees challenged him, "Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid."
  14. 14 Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.
  15. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.
  16. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.
  17. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true.
  18. 18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."
  19. 19 Then they asked him, "Where is your father?" "You do not know me or my Father," Jesus replied. "If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
  20. 20 He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.
  21. 21 Once more Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come."
  22. 22 This made the Jews ask, "Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, 'Where I go, you cannot come'?"
  23. 23 But he continued, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
  24. 24 I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins."
  25. 25 "Who are you?" they asked. "Just what I have been telling you from the beginning," Jesus replied.
  26. 26 "I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from him I tell the world."
  27. 27 They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father.
  28. 28 So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.
  29. 29 The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him."

  31. 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
  32. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
  33. 33 They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?"
  34. 34 Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
  35. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.
  36. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
  37. 37 I know that you are Abraham's descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word.
  38. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father's presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father."
  39. 39 "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you were Abraham's children," said Jesus, "then you would do what Abraham did.
  40. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.
  41. 41 You are doing the works of your own father." "We are not illegitimate children," they protested. "The only Father we have is God himself."
  42. 42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.
  43. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.
  44. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
  45. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!
  46. 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?
  47. 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."
  48. 48 The Jews answered him, "Aren't we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?"
  49. 49 "I am not possessed by a demon," said Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.

  51. 51 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death."
  52. 52 At this they exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death.
  53. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?"
  54. 54 Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.
  55. 55 Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.

  5. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?"
  6. 6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.
  7. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!"

  9. 9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.
  10. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, "Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?"
  11. 11 "No, Lord," she said. And Jesus said, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more."
  12. 12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
  13. 13 The Pharisees replied, "You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid."
  14. 14 Jesus told them, "These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don't know this about me.
  15. 15 You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone.
  16. 16 And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me.
  17. 17 Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as fact.
  18. 18 I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other."
  19. 19 "Where is your father?" they asked. Jesus answered, "Since you don't know who I am, you don't know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father."
  20. 20 Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.
  21. 21 Later Jesus said to them again, "I am going away. You will search for me but will die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going."
  22. 22 The people asked, "Is he planning to commit suicide? What does he mean, 'You cannot come where I am going'?"
  23. 23 Jesus continued, "You are from below; I am from above. You belong to this world; I do not.
  24. 24 That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM who I claim to be, you will die in your sins."
  25. 25 "Who are you?" they demanded. Jesus replied, "The one I have always claimed to be.
  26. 26 I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but I won't. For I say only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is completely truthful."
  27. 27 But they still didn't understand that he was talking about his Father.
  28. 28 So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man on the cross, then you will understand that I AM he. I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me.
  29. 29 And the one who sent me is with me ? he has not deserted me. For I always do what pleases him."
  30. 30 Then many who heard him say these things believed in him.
  31. 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.

  33. 33 "But we are descendants of Abraham," they said. "We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, 'You will be set free'?"
  34. 34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.

  41. 41 No, you are imitating your real father." They replied, "We aren't illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father."
  42. 42 Jesus told them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me.
  43. 43 Why can't you understand what I am saying? It's because you can't even hear me!

  48. 48 The people retorted, "You Samaritan devil! Didn't we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?"
  49. 49 "No," Jesus said, "I have no demon in me. For I honor my Father ? and you dishonor me.
  50. 50 And though I have no wish to glorify myself, God is going to glorify me. He is the true judge.
  51. 51 I tell you the truth, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!"
  52. 52 The people said, "Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say, 'Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!'
  53. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?"
  54. 54 Jesus answered, "If I want glory for myself, it doesn't count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say, 'He is our God,'
  55. 55 but you don't even know him. I know him. If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But I do know him and obey him.
  56. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad."
  57. 57 The people said, "You aren't even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham? "
  58. 58 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM! "
  59. 59 At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.
