Exodus 26 meaning explained in AI Summary

God provides instructions for the construction of the Tabernacle itself. The Tabernacle is to be made of acacia wood and covered with curtains and skins. It will be divided into two sections: the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place, where the Ark of the Covenant will reside.

Exodus Chapter 26 details the Lord's instructions to Moses regarding the construction of the tabernacle, specifically focusing on its curtains, frames, coverings, and veil.

1. Curtains and Boards (Verses 1-14):

  • God instructs the creation of ten curtains of fine linen, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, embroidered with cherubim, to form the tabernacle's inner covering.
  • These curtains are to be coupled together with loops and clasps of gold.
  • Forty acacia wood boards, overlaid with gold, are to be made for the tabernacle's frame, each with two silver bases.

2. Coverings (Verses 15-30):

  • Instructions are given for making coverings from goat hair, rams' skins dyed red, and badger skins to protect the tabernacle from the elements.
  • The acacia wood boards are to be erected and secured with bars running through rings attached to the boards.

3. Veil and Entrance (Verses 31-37):

  • God commands the creation of a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, embroidered with cherubim, to separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.
  • This veil is to be hung on four pillars of acacia wood overlaid with gold.
  • A screen for the tabernacle's entrance is also to be made of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, embroidered work.

Significance:

This chapter highlights the meticulous care and detail God desired in the construction of the tabernacle, His dwelling place among the Israelites. The specific materials, colors, and craftsmanship all hold symbolic meaning, pointing towards God's holiness, glory, and presence. The division of the tabernacle, particularly the veil separating the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, emphasizes the sacredness of God's presence and the need for atonement and mediation to approach Him.

Exodus 26 bible study ai commentary

The Tabernacle's design in Exodus 26 serves as a profound theological blueprint. It establishes the central theme of a holy God creating a structured, consecrated space to dwell amidst a redeemed yet sinful people. The intricate details—from the colors and materials to the specific dimensions and joinings—are not merely architectural but are saturated with symbolism. This portable sanctuary is a physical manifestation of the covenant, a copy of a heavenly pattern, and a rich foreshadowing of the person and work of Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate dwelling place of God, the veil to the Father, and the door for all believers.

Exodus 26 context

The instructions for the Tabernacle (Mishkan, "dwelling place") are given to Moses on Mount Sinai, in the context of the newly established covenant between Yahweh and Israel. Culturally, this contrasted sharply with the monumental, immovable stone temples of Egypt and Canaan dedicated to pagan gods. The Tabernacle's portability signified that Israel's God was not tied to a location but was a personal, present God who journeyed with His people. Its design, revealed from heaven, served as a polemic against idolatry; Israel was to worship God on His terms, in His prescribed manner, in a space free from any physical representation of Yahweh himself.

Exodus 26:1-6

“Moreover, you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns; you shall make them with cherubim skillfully worked into them. The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall be the same size. Five curtains shall be coupled to one another, and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another. And you shall make loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set. And you shall make fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is in the second set. You shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to another with the clasps, so that the tabernacle may be a single whole.

In-depth-analysis

  • The Mishkan Proper: This first set of curtains is the "Tabernacle" itself, the beautiful interior ceiling seen from the Holy Place.
  • Materials & Colors:
    • Fine Twined Linen: Represents perfect purity and righteousness.
    • Blue (tekhelet): Symbolizes heaven, the divine, and God's law.
    • Purple (argaman): The color of royalty and kingship.
    • Scarlet (tola'at shani): Represents blood, sacrifice, and life.
    • Together, these point to the divine (blue), royal (purple), and sacrificial (scarlet) nature of the Messiah, clothed in perfect righteousness (linen).
  • Cherubim: Angelic beings associated with guarding God's holiness (Gen 3:24, Ezek 10). Woven into the fabric, they signify that this is a heavenly space, a copy of God's throne room. They were not objects of worship but part of the divine decor.
  • Unity: The ten curtains are made into two sets of five, then joined by 50 golden clasps and 50 blue loops to become "one Tabernacle" (mishkan echad). Gold speaks of divinity and glory. This unity from plurality is a model for Israel and later the Church, made one body by a divine and heavenly connection.

Bible references

  • John 1:14: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory..." (The Greek word for "dwelt" means "to pitch a tent" or "to tabernacle").
  • Hebrews 8:5: "They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, 'See that you make everything according to the pattern...'" (The Tabernacle is a model of a heavenly reality).
  • Revelation 19:8: "...it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure'—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints." (Symbolism of fine linen).
  • Ephesians 2:21-22: "...the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit." (Believers joined together into one spiritual house).

Cross references

Eph 4:3-6 (unity of the Spirit), 1 Pet 2:5 (a spiritual house), Rev 4:6-8 (beings around the throne), Ezek 1:5-14 (description of cherubim), Rev 21:3 (God dwelling with man).

Exodus 26:7-13

“You shall also make curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle; eleven curtains shall you make. ...And you shall make fifty clasps of bronze, and put the clasps into the loops and couple the tent together that it may be a single whole. And the part that remains of the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that remains, shall hang over the back of the tabernacle. And the cubit on the one side, and the cubit on the other side, of what remains in the length of the curtains of the tent shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle, on this side and that side, to cover it.

In-depth-analysis

  • The Ohel (Tent): This second layer, made of goat's hair, completely covers the beautiful inner curtains.
  • Material: Goat's hair was a common material for tents, signifying the humble, outward appearance. Goats were also prominently used for the sin offering (Lev 16:15). This layer thus speaks of a covering for sin.
  • Humble Appearance: From the outside, the glorious inner work is completely hidden by this drab, utilitarian covering. This speaks to the veiled glory of God in the wilderness and the veiled deity of Christ during His earthly ministry.
  • Bronze Clasps: Unlike the golden clasps within, these are bronze. In the Tabernacle's symbolism, bronze is often associated with judgment against sin (e.g., the bronze altar). This tent, associated with the sin offering, is held together by "judgment."
  • Complete Covering: It is intentionally larger than the inner layer to provide full coverage and protection.

Bible references

  • Isaiah 53:2: "For he grew up before him like a young plant... he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him." (Christ's humble appearance hiding His inner glory).
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21: "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (Christ as the sin offering).
  • Philippians 2:6-7: "...who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant..." (Christ's humble condescension).

Cross references

Lev 4:22-26 (goat as a sin offering), John 1:10-11 (He was in the world...and the world did not know him), Zech 13:1 (a fountain opened for sin).

Exodus 26:14

And you shall make for the tent a covering of tanned rams’ skins, and a covering of goatskins on top.

Note: Most modern translations render the final covering as "goatskins," "badger skins," or "sea cow skins." The Hebrew term tachash is uncertain.

In-depth-analysis

  • Two Outer Layers: This verse describes the final two protective coverings.
  • Tanned Rams' Skins Dyed Red: The ram was the animal of substitution (Gen 22:13) and consecration for priests (Ex 29). The red dye speaks unequivocally of shed blood. This layer represents a covering of substitutionary atonement.
  • Tachash Skins: The outermost layer. The exact animal is unknown. What is clear is its function: a durable, waterproof, weather-resistant material to protect the sanctuary from the harsh desert environment (sun, sand, rain). It would have been tough and plain, with no aesthetic beauty, completing the theme of the hidden glory within.

Bible references

  • Genesis 22:13: "And Abraham...looked and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son." (Ram as a substitute).
  • Isaiah 4:6: "It will be for a shade by day from the heat, and for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain." (God as a protective covering for His people).
  • Psalm 91:4: "He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge..." (God as protector).

Cross references

Ex 29:19-20 (ram of consecration), Eph 6:11 (put on the full armor of God), Ps 32:7 (you are a hiding place for me).

Exodus 26:15-30

“You shall make upright frames for the tabernacle of acacia wood. ... And you shall make for the frames forty sockets of silver... a ransom for each man. ... And you shall make bars of acacia wood... And the middle bar...shall pass through from end to end. You shall overlay the frames with gold and shall make their rings of gold...

In-depth-analysis

  • Frames (qeresh): These boards formed the solid, standing walls of the Tabernacle.
  • Acacia Wood: A desert wood known for being hard, dense, and resistant to decay. It is a biblical picture of incorruptible, perfect humanity.
  • Gold Overlay: The incorruptible wood is overlaid with pure gold (symbolic of deity). This combination of wood and gold, distinct yet inseparable, is a powerful type of Jesus Christ—fully human and fully divine.
  • Silver Sockets: The entire structure stands on a foundation of silver sockets. This silver came from the "atonement money," a half-shekel paid by every Israelite man as a ransom for his soul (Ex 30:11-16). Therefore, the foundation of God's dwelling place is redemption.
  • Bars: Five bars on each long side held the individual boards together. Critically, one "middle bar" passed through the entire length, unifying the whole wall. This represents Christ, who by His Spirit holds the entire church together.

Bible references

  • 1 Peter 1:18-19: "...you were ransomed from the futile ways...not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ..." (The principle of redemption/ransom).
  • Colossians 1:17: "And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Christ as the unifying force).
  • Hebrews 2:14: "Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things..." (The Son taking on humanity—wood).
  • John 1:1,14: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word became flesh..." (The two natures—gold and wood).

Cross references

Ex 30:16 (atonement money for the service of the tent), Ex 38:25-27 (accounting for the silver used for sockets), 1 Cor 3:11 (no other foundation can be laid), Eph 2:20 (built on the foundation...Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone).

Exodus 26:31-33

“And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.

In-depth-analysis

  • The Veil (Parochet): This was the most critical barrier, separating the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies, where the Ark and God's immediate presence resided.
  • A Barrier: It vividly demonstrated that sinful man could not enter God's holy presence. Access was forbidden to all except the High Priest, and to him only once a year on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).
  • Same Materials: Its construction (colors, linen, cherubim) matches the innermost Tabernacle curtains, identifying it with Christ's person and work.
  • Four Pillars: Supported by four pillars, a number often associated with the earth (four corners, four winds), suggesting its significance for all the world. They stand on the silver foundation of redemption.

Bible references

  • Hebrews 10:19-20: "...we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh." (The definitive New Testament interpretation of the Veil).
  • Matthew 27:51: "And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split." (The historical fulfillment, signifying that Christ's death opened direct access to God).
  • Leviticus 16:2: "...the LORD said to Moses, 'Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil...lest he die...'" (The seriousness of this barrier).

Cross references

Heb 6:19 (our hope enters behind the curtain), Heb 9:3,7-8 (the way into the holy places not yet disclosed), Isa 59:2 (your iniquities have made a separation).

Exodus 26:34-35

You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place. And you shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand on the south side of the tabernacle opposite the table, and you shall put the table on the north side.

In-depth-analysis

  • Furniture Arrangement: The placement is highly symbolic.
  • Within the Veil: The Ark of the Covenant, containing the law, is covered by the Mercy Seat (Kapporet), God's throne. This signifies that God's presence and mercy reign over His law.
  • Outside the Veil (in the Holy Place):
    • Table of Showbread (North): Represents God's continual provision for His people (the priests). It points to Christ as the Bread of Life.
    • Golden Lampstand / Menorah (South): Represents the light of God's presence and testimony. It points to Christ as the Light of the World and the Spirit's illumination.

Bible references

  • Hebrews 9:2-5: This passage describes the layout of the Tabernacle and its furniture, confirming the arrangement.
  • John 6:35: "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger...'" (Table).
  • John 8:12: "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness...'" (Lampstand).

Cross references

Rev 1:12-13, 20 (lampstands represent churches), Rom 3:25 (Christ as our propitiation/mercy seat).

Exodus 26:36-37

“You shall make a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework. And you shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia and overlay them with gold, and their hooks shall be of gold, and you shall cast five sockets of bronze for them.

In-depth-analysis

  • The Screen (Masak): This curtain served as the single doorway into the Holy Place. It represents the only way to approach God.
  • Materials: Made of the same royal, heavenly, and sacrificial colors, signifying it also points to Christ. However, it notably lacks the cherubim, which guard the innermost holiness. It is an entrance, not the ultimate barrier.
  • Five Pillars with Bronze Sockets: The number five can represent grace. These pillars, like the others, are acacia and gold (Christ's two natures). Crucially, their foundation is bronze (judgment), not silver (redemption). To enter into fellowship with God, one must first pass through a "door" that has absorbed the judgment for sin. Christ is that door.

Bible references

  • John 10:9: "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture." (Christ as the exclusive entrance).
  • John 14:6: "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" (The single way of access).

Cross references

Acts 4:12 (no other name by which we must be saved), Eph 2:18 (through him we both have access), Ex 27:16 (the gate of the court has the same colors and construction).

Polemics: Against paganism which often had multiple entrances to temples for various purposes or gods, Yahweh's dwelling has one door. This exclusive access through a prescribed "door" countered the religious pluralism of the ancient Near East.

Exodus chapter 26 analysis

  • A Heaven-to-Earth Model: The Tabernacle is a copy of a heavenly reality, designed from God's perspective downwards. The description starts with the innermost, most glorious curtains and moves outward to the plainest, protective layer. This reflects how God sees things, valuing the inner glory over the outward appearance.
  • The Trinity in the Colors: While not a direct doctrine, some scholars see a Trinitarian pattern. Blue for the Father (heaven), scarlet for the Son (blood), and fine linen for the Spirit (righteousness and purity), all interwoven in the work of redemption. The purple (blue + red) shows the unity of the Father and Son in purpose.
  • A Mobile Sinai: The Tabernacle essentially makes Mount Sinai portable. The cloud of glory that rested on the mountain now rests on the Tent of Meeting, allowing God's presence, which was previously geographically fixed, to lead and journey with His people.
  • A Gospel in Wood, Metal, and Fabric: Every detail preaches the Gospel. Man's need for covering (multiple layers), the foundation of redemption (silver sockets), the necessity of a mediator who is both God and man (gold over wood), access to God only through shed blood (red coloring), and the single door of access (the screen) all point directly to the future work of Jesus Christ.

Exodus 26 summary

This chapter provides God's divine blueprint for the Tabernacle's structure: its four layers of coverings (linen/cherubim, goat's hair, ram's skin, tachash skin), the acacia wood and gold frame resting on a silver foundation of redemption, the separating Veil into the Most Holy Place, and the Screen at the entrance. Each detail is a rich theological symbol, illustrating God's holiness, His plan of redemption, and a multi-layered typology of the person and work of Christ.

  7. 7 "You shall also make curtains of goats' hair, to be a tent over the tabernacle. You shall make eleven curtains.
  8. 8 The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; and the eleven curtains shall all have the same measurements.

  21. 21 and their forty sockets of silver: two sockets under each of the boards.
  22. 22 For the far side of the tabernacle, westward, you shall make six boards.
  23. 23 And you shall also make two boards for the two back corners of the tabernacle.
  24. 24 They shall be coupled together at the bottom and they shall be coupled together at the top by one ring. Thus it shall be for both of them. They shall be for the two corners.

  31. 31 "You shall make a veil woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen. It shall be woven with an artistic design of cherubim.
  32. 32 You shall hang it upon the four pillars of acacia wood overlaid with gold. Their hooks shall be gold, upon four sockets of silver.
  33. 33 And you shall hang the veil from the clasps. Then you shall bring the ark of the Testimony in there, behind the veil. The veil shall be a divider for you between the holy place and the Most Holy.
  34. 34 You shall put the mercy seat upon the ark of the Testimony in the Most Holy.
  35. 35 You shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand across from the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south; and you shall put the table on the north side.
  36. 36 "You shall make a screen for the door of the tabernacle, woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, made by a weaver.
  37. 37 And you shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold; their hooks shall be gold, and you shall cast five sockets of bronze for them.

  11. 11 Then make fifty bronze clasps and put them in the loops to fasten the tent together as a unit.
  12. 12 As for the additional length of the tent curtains, the half curtain that is left over is to hang down at the rear of the tabernacle.
  13. 13 The tent curtains will be a cubit longer on both sides; what is left will hang over the sides of the tabernacle so as to cover it.
  14. 14 Make for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.
  15. 15 "Make upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle.
  16. 16 Each frame is to be ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide,
  17. 17 with two projections set parallel to each other. Make all the frames of the tabernacle in this way.
  18. 18 Make twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle
  19. 19 and make forty silver bases to go under them?two bases for each frame, one under each projection.
  20. 20 For the other side, the north side of the tabernacle, make twenty frames
  21. 21 and forty silver bases?two under each frame.
  22. 22 Make six frames for the far end, that is, the west end of the tabernacle,
  23. 23 and make two frames for the corners at the far end.
  24. 24 At these two corners they must be double from the bottom all the way to the top and fitted into a single ring; both shall be like that.
  25. 25 So there will be eight frames and sixteen silver bases?two under each frame.
  26. 26 "Also make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle,
  27. 27 five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle.
  28. 28 The center crossbar is to extend from end to end at the middle of the frames.
  29. 29 Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Also overlay the crossbars with gold.
  30. 30 "Set up the tabernacle according to the plan shown you on the mountain.
  31. 31 "Make a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by a skilled worker.
  32. 32 Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases.
  33. 33 Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind the curtain. The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.
  34. 34 Put the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law in the Most Holy Place.
  35. 35 Place the table outside the curtain on the north side of the tabernacle and put the lampstand opposite it on the south side.
  36. 36 "For the entrance to the tent make a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen?the work of an embroiderer.
  37. 37 Make gold hooks for this curtain and five posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold. And cast five bronze bases for them.

Exodus chapter 26 esv

  1. 1 "Moreover, you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns; you shall make them with cherubim skillfully worked into them.
  2. 2 The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall be the same size.
  3. 3 Five curtains shall be coupled to one another, and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another.
  4. 4 And you shall make loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set. Likewise you shall make loops on the edge of the outermost curtain in the second set.
  5. 5 Fifty loops you shall make on the one curtain, and fifty loops you shall make on the edge of the curtain that is in the second set; the loops shall be opposite one another.
  6. 6 And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to the other with the clasps, so that the tabernacle may be a single whole.
  7. 7 "You shall also make curtains of goats' hair for a tent over the tabernacle; eleven curtains shall you make.
  8. 8 The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. The eleven curtains shall be the same size.
  9. 9 You shall couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and the sixth curtain you shall double over at the front of the tent.
  10. 10 You shall make fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in one set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second set.
  11. 11 "You shall make fifty clasps of bronze, and put the clasps into the loops, and couple the tent together that it may be a single whole.
  12. 12 And the part that remains of the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that remains, shall hang over the back of the tabernacle.
  13. 13 And the extra that remains in the length of the curtains, the cubit on the one side, and the cubit on the other side, shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle, on this side and that side, to cover it.
  14. 14 And you shall make for the tent a covering of tanned rams' skins and a covering of goatskins on top.
  15. 15 "You shall make upright frames for the tabernacle of acacia wood.
  16. 16 Ten cubits shall be the length of a frame, and a cubit and a half the breadth of each frame.
  17. 17 There shall be two tenons in each frame, for fitting together. So shall you do for all the frames of the tabernacle.
  18. 18 You shall make the frames for the tabernacle: twenty frames for the south side;
  19. 19 and forty bases of silver you shall make under the twenty frames, two bases under one frame for its two tenons, and two bases under the next frame for its two tenons;
  20. 20 and for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side twenty frames,
  21. 21 and their forty bases of silver, two bases under one frame, and two bases under the next frame.
  22. 22 And for the rear of the tabernacle westward you shall make six frames.
  23. 23 And you shall make two frames for corners of the tabernacle in the rear;
  24. 24 they shall be separate beneath, but joined at the top, at the first ring. Thus shall it be with both of them; they shall form the two corners.
  25. 25 And there shall be eight frames, with their bases of silver, sixteen bases; two bases under one frame, and two bases under another frame.
  26. 26 "You shall make bars of acacia wood, five for the frames of the one side of the tabernacle,
  27. 27 and five bars for the frames of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the frames of the side of the tabernacle at the rear westward.
  28. 28 The middle bar, halfway up the frames, shall run from end to end.
  29. 29 You shall overlay the frames with gold and shall make their rings of gold for holders for the bars, and you shall overlay the bars with gold.
  30. 30 Then you shall erect the tabernacle according to the plan for it that you were shown on the mountain.
  31. 31 "And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it.
  32. 32 And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver.
  33. 33 And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.
  34. 34 You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place.
  35. 35 And you shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand on the south side of the tabernacle opposite the table, and you shall put the table on the north side.
  36. 36 "You shall make a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework.
  37. 37 And you shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia, and overlay them with gold. Their hooks shall be of gold, and you shall cast five bases of bronze for them.

Exodus chapter 26 nlt

  1. 1 "Make the Tabernacle from ten curtains of finely woven linen. Decorate the curtains with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim.
  2. 2 These ten curtains must all be exactly the same size ? 42 feet long and 6 feet wide.
  3. 3 Join five of these curtains together to make one long curtain, then join the other five into a second long curtain.
  4. 4 Put loops of blue yarn along the edge of the last curtain in each set.
  5. 5 The fifty loops along the edge of one curtain are to match the fifty loops along the edge of the other curtain.
  6. 6 Then make fifty gold clasps and fasten the long curtains together with the clasps. In this way, the Tabernacle will be made of one continuous piece.
  7. 7 "Make eleven curtains of goat-hair cloth to serve as a tent covering for the Tabernacle.
  8. 8 These eleven curtains must all be exactly the same size ? 45 feet long and 6 feet wide.
  9. 9 Join five of these curtains together to make one long curtain, and join the other six into a second long curtain. Allow 3 feet of material from the second set of curtains to hang over the front of the sacred tent.
  10. 10 Make fifty loops for one edge of each large curtain.
  11. 11 Then make fifty bronze clasps, and fasten the loops of the long curtains with the clasps. In this way, the tent covering will be made of one continuous piece.
  12. 12 The remaining 3 feet of this tent covering will be left to hang over the back of the Tabernacle.
  13. 13 Allow 18 inches of remaining material to hang down over each side, so the Tabernacle is completely covered.
  14. 14 Complete the tent covering with a protective layer of tanned ram skins and a layer of fine goatskin leather.
  15. 15 "For the framework of the Tabernacle, construct frames of acacia wood.
  16. 16 Each frame must be 15 feet high and 27 inches wide,
  17. 17 with two pegs under each frame. Make all the frames identical.
  18. 18 Make twenty of these frames to support the curtains on the south side of the Tabernacle.
  19. 19 Also make forty silver bases ? two bases under each frame, with the pegs fitting securely into the bases.
  20. 20 For the north side of the Tabernacle, make another twenty frames,
  21. 21 with their forty silver bases, two bases under each frame.
  22. 22 Make six frames for the rear ? the west side of the Tabernacle ?
  23. 23 along with two additional frames to reinforce the rear corners of the Tabernacle.
  24. 24 These corner frames will be matched at the bottom and firmly attached at the top with a single ring, forming a single corner unit. Make both of these corner units the same way.
  25. 25 So there will be eight frames at the rear of the Tabernacle, set in sixteen silver bases ? two bases under each frame.
  26. 26 "Make crossbars of acacia wood to link the frames, five crossbars for the north side of the Tabernacle
  27. 27 and five for the south side. Also make five crossbars for the rear of the Tabernacle, which will face west.
  28. 28 The middle crossbar, attached halfway up the frames, will run all the way from one end of the Tabernacle to the other.
  29. 29 Overlay the frames with gold, and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Overlay the crossbars with gold as well.
  30. 30 "Set up this Tabernacle according to the pattern you were shown on the mountain.
  31. 31 "For the inside of the Tabernacle, make a special curtain of finely woven linen. Decorate it with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim.
  32. 32 Hang this curtain on gold hooks attached to four posts of acacia wood. Overlay the posts with gold, and set them in four silver bases.
  33. 33 Hang the inner curtain from clasps, and put the Ark of the Covenant in the room behind it. This curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.
  34. 34 "Then put the Ark's cover ? the place of atonement ? on top of the Ark of the Covenant inside the Most Holy Place.
  35. 35 Place the table outside the inner curtain on the north side of the Tabernacle, and place the lampstand across the room on the south side.
  36. 36 "Make another curtain for the entrance to the sacred tent. Make it of finely woven linen and embroider it with exquisite designs, using blue, purple, and scarlet thread.
  37. 37 Craft five posts from acacia wood. Overlay them with gold, and hang the curtain from them with gold hooks. Cast five bronze bases for the posts.
